"Beautiful boat, great food, fabulous sights"
We booked a one overnight cruise and were so pleasantly surprised by how lovely the boat was, the service was great and the food was excellent. The scenery is dreamlike and much more extensive than we expected. A great bonus was an opportunity to do a little kayaking around the sight. We loved every moment.

"Frustrated by Typhoon but great cruise experience overall"
My wife and I booked a 2 day 1 night cruise with Flamingo. We paid $320 total ($160pp). We selected the most expensive terrace/balcony room, which I highly recommend. The staff picked us up on time from our hotel and was friendly throughout the 3+hour drive from Hanoi to Halong Bay. We arrived to cloudy rainy skies and after transfer from the bus to the boat, we were gathered in the dining room on the boat for lunch when our tour guide broke the news that we would be unable to stay on the boat overnight due to approaching typhoon. Apparently, the government regulates the tour boats fairly strictly and was preventing any of them from operating overnight. The cruise was to continue on a Day-Cruise itinerary with tour of cave and lunch/snack on the boat then return in the evening after 6 hours crushing the bay. We were given two options at that point 1) return that evening to Hanoi and receive refund for 2nd day 2) stay overnight in Halong city hotel with free dinner/breakfast/lunch then return to Hanoi the following day with no refund. We chose option 2 after requesting the tour company to also cover our $50 bar tab for drinks while on the shortened cruise. They agreed (with some negotiation). The brief cruise was wonderful. The boat was not the biggest/newest in the harbor but it was quite charming. The food was good. Drinks were great. The cave was amazing! My only complaint were the crowds at the cave. I'd hoped to get a more peaceful, relaxed vibe more in synch with the natural beauty of the Bay but our shortened tour precluded that as we didn't have time to travel too far from the crowds. For a couple short hours, though, in our room with the balcony, my wife and I had the coziness nap ever! The room had a comfortable nautical feel with lots of dark wood, the bed was soft with crisp white sheets, big windows with views of the water/mountains/bay and of course the private balcony with seating for two. We were bummed not to be staying the night! Instead we returned to harbor and were transferred to the Morning Star hotel which, as best I can tell, is unaffiliated with Flamingo cruises except to provide hotel stay in the event of tour cancelations. Our experience at the hotel was one of our worst ever -- mainly due to our room 501 smelling increasingly like sewage throughout the night...like we were sleeping in a porta-potty. It was so bad we were actually frightened to light a match for fear of exploding methane gas! The staff at the hotel were friendly, even though they spoke little-to-no-English, and put us in a new room the next morning. After a nice lunch in the hotel dining room on the top floor with beautiful views of the bay, our tour company picked us up on time and transferred us back to Hanoi. Turns out, in the end, the typhoon fizzled to a gentle, foggy rain storm but still all tours on the bay the next day were cancelled starting in the morning -- they didn't even get the option of a 6 hour day cruise. We were feeling grateful. In summary: PROS: charming junk boat; the balcony/terrace room was very comfortable; cruise staff was friendly, fair, reliable; food & drinks were good; price was quite reasonable; all inclusive (except alcohol), Halong Bay scenery is stunning. CONS: this cruise, and maybe all Halong Bay cruises, seem very susceptible to weather conditions; crowds at the cave were queued up; Back-up-hotel accommodations stink...literally. All that being said, I give Flamingo Cruise 4 stars mostly on the merit of their staff and their core Cruise services. Visited January 2016
