History of One Pillar pagoda:

One Pillar Pagoda was built in Ky Suu 1049, under King Ly Thai Tong. According to the legend, in a dream, King Ly Thai Tong dreamed that Quan Am Buddha was sitting on the lotus radiating a radiance and invited the king to come along. The dream of the king told me. Zen Master advised the king to erect the temple on the stone pillar as in a dream, to make the lotus temple for Buddha to dwell above.

In the history book, it is recorded at the position of One Pillar Pagoda, now there is a stone pillar above which has a pearl floor, in the pearl there is Quan Am Buddha statue which was erected in the square lake. The king often went to recite the Buddhist scriptures and praying. After the prince followed up and remodeled the temple and built an additional temple 10 meters southwest. This relic is named Diên Hựu Tự in the hope of "long-term blessing".

In 1105, King Ly Nhan Tong repaired the pagoda and built two more white porcelain roofs in front of the yard. By 1108 Y Lan sent a person to cast a large bell named "General Enlightenment" with the meaning of awakening the human heart.

During the war against France. The One Pillar Pagoda was destroyed by the French expeditionary army. By 1955 the One Pillar of Hanoi was reconstructed and preserved so far. Beside there is still a temple gate with a horizontal diaphragm showing three words "Diên Hựu Tự".
